WHO is it for?

This course is for young people aged 18-25 in the North East, who have an enthusiasm for grassroots electronic music and the community around Shy Bairns. We are committed to addressing the inequality in the music industry. We want to make sure this opportunity is available to everyone, no matter what their background or the barriers they have faced.

WHY are we doing it?

We believe in breaking down barriers to opportunity within the music industry.

Despite some notable names having success, the proportion of working-class creatives in the UK has halved since the 1970s. Research suggests that fewer than 1 in 10 arts workers in the UK have working- class roots, a statistic we’re determined to change in the North East. Our mission is to help develop the North East’s electronic music scene, by supporting and educating local talent nurturing a unique regional sound. Whether you’ve released 4 studio albums or made 3 demos, if this course feels right for you please apply :)

Applications open on August 1st 2025 - 1st September. Any questions get in touch at getnowt@shybairnscollective.com
